In the current nonprofit and social enterprise ecosystems, there are a number of barriers limiting significant social impact in our communities. Nonprofit organizations are attempting innovative approaches to programming but their organizational structure and fundraising strategies are often laborious and ineffective. Collaborations and partnerships are encouraged but rarely come to fruition, or if they do, the responsibilities are not shared equally. Donors demand transparency and socially responsible business practices of the institutions they invest in which is another challenge for today’s nonprofit organizations. Similarly, social enterprise businesses are expected to exhibit the same kind of transparency and ethical practices while working in a for-profit context. What is social impact? How can you apply it in your world? How can it be measured? What are the key performance indicators? How are these benchmarks defined? How should this information be shared with stakeholders? Where do you even begin???

About Us

Daina Storey, MAICD

Daina is a social impact professional with over 14 years of professional experience in project & event management, logistics, data assessment, strategy, and marketing across a diverse range of industries including social enterprise, nonprofit, entertainment, and real estate. Daina most recently served as the Director for the Nashville Social Enterprise Alliance, and continues to support the chapter as an active board member. In her role, she managed, created, and executed all aspects of the Nashville chapter of SEA resulting in NSEA becoming one of the largest chapters within Social Enterprise Alliance’s national network of chapters. While at NSEA, she strategized chapter growth by building a network of resources and community partners for social entrepreneurs, as well as engaged the social enterprise community and created educational opportunities through events, marketing & social media, including NSEA's most successful Good Makers Market ever in November of 2018. She has also consulted with Red Bull’s social enterprise initiative, Amaphiko, assisting with the execution of their first Connect event in the south.

Daina is also an experienced realtor with Village Real Estate, holds a MA in International Community Development from Northwest University and a BS in Communications from Belmont University and has held positions with respected national institutions including World Vision, Social Enterprise Alliance, Vector Management, and Keller Williams Realty. She has also co-founded and launched The Kkumi Project, a nonprofit that focuses on education and leadership opportunities for young men in the Wakiso community of Uganda. She is active in her community and passionate volunteering and has served on the board for the 12 South Neighborhood Association, as well as volunteered for organizations including Thistle Farms, Trap Garden, and Siloam Family Health Center. She has lived in East Africa and London, led multiple international team trips to Uganda, and enjoys traveling with her husband to soak up different cultures. They have just welcomed their first child, Leyton Sophia. Most of all, she is passionate about supporting the sustainable impact social enterprise has in communities and helping the sector grow.

Laurel Fisher, M.Ed.

Laurel is a nonprofit specialist with over 15 years of experience working in fundraising, grants management, social enterprise, data collection, impact measurement and nonprofit training. In addition to consulting with Fisher Storey Consulting, she is the Operations Manager for BRANDED Collective, a social enterprise jewelry company based in Nashville that employs survivors of human trafficking. In this role, she represents the company at over 35 live events per year and works alongside survivors in the studio making beautiful hand-crafted jewelry.

Laurel holds a M.Ed. in Nonprofit Leadership from Belmont University and has held positions at some of Nashville’s most dynamic organizations including Vanderbilt University, The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, W.O. Smith/Nashville Community Music School, and Catholic Charities of Tennessee. Laurel most recently served as the Grants Manager for Metro Arts, a department of local government program that supports the arts community in Nashville, TN. In her role there, she managed their community arts grants program that annually distributes $2.5 million to over 60 nonprofit arts organizations and projects in Nashville, TN.

Laurel has presented both regionally and nationally on grantmaking and grant writing for groups such as Arts and Business Council of Greater Nashville and Grantmakers in the Arts. She is an experienced grant writer having written successful proposals to regional and national funders including The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Tennessee Arts Commission, and National Endowment for the Arts, among others. She is a Nashville Emerging Leaders alumni and serves on the boards of the St. George’s Enterprise Ministry, Nashville Social Enterprise Alliance, and the Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra. She also finds time to be actively engaged in Nashville’s music community as a classical singer with Elevare and a staff musician at St. George’s Episcopal Church. While she isn’t a Tennessee native, she has lived in Nashville, TN for over 10 years. She loves spending time with her nephew, indoor rock climbing, reading, kayaking, and jewelry-making.
